PERTH AMBOY, NJ—A Perth Amboy police officer was shot three times during a search warrant operation on Wednesday night in Rahway, with authorities confirming the incident. The shooting occurred around 8:50 PM near Broad Street and Maple Avenue. According to a report from ABC7ny.com, two individuals were apprehended at the scene, one of whom required medical evacuation on a stretcher.

State Attorney General Matt Platkin released a statement early Thursday, highlighting the community’s concern for the injured officer. “All of New Jersey is praying for his recovery as he undergoes treatment at an area hospital, and we are grateful to the many law enforcement officers who responded and rendered aid immediately after the shooting,” Platkin remarked.

The officer sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Rahway Mayor Raymond Giacobbe stated that the officer’s injuries are not life-threatening, and the situation was quickly contained by the combined efforts of Perth Amboy and Rahway police departments.

Mayor Giacobbe also expressed his support for the wounded officer, saying, “My thoughts and prayers are with the injured officer. I extend my heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery and offer support to his family during this challenging time.”

The State Police Benevolent Association provided an update on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, expressing relief that the detective’s condition was stable. “We are counting our blessings this morning that our Perth Amboy Detective is going to recover,” the association shared. They also thanked the medical staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for their exceptional care, attributing the officer’s stable condition to the prompt and effective treatment he received.

“The wounded Perth Amboy detective was shot 3 times in Rahway. His fellow detectives took quick actions to save his life. We are thankful for the outpouring of support. The detective is in stable condition.” the NJPBA said in a statement today.
