New Jersey Cops Arrest Most Wanted Texas Fugitive

SECAUCUS, N.J. — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of one of Texas’ most wanted fugitives on Wednesday morning, according to the Secaucus Police Department.

At approximately 8:23 a.m., Secaucus Police Officer Robert Schaffer was patrolling the intersection of Meadowlands Parkway and Wood Avenue when he observed a man walking between vehicles outside of a crosswalk, creating a safety hazard, the department said in a statement. Officer Schaffer stopped the individual, who was subsequently identified as Tito Correa, 50, of Fort Worth, Texas.

A background check revealed that Correa was wanted in Tarrant County, Texas, on a charge of arson. Correa had also been listed on the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office’s Most Wanted List, according to authorities. After confirming the warrant, Officer Schaffer took Correa into custody.

Correa was charged with being a fugitive from justice and received a summons for failing to use a designated crosswalk. He was transported to Hudson County Jail, where he awaits potential extradition to Texas.

“The Patrol Division is the backbone of every police department, and the Secaucus Police Department promotes proactive policing,” said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. “I am proud of Police Officer Schaffer and all the other members of the Secaucus Police Department for their ongoing proactive efforts to keep our community safe.”

The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to address public safety issues through vigilant patrol practices, the department stated.
