NJ hospitals praised in US News report for cancer and heart care

WEST ORANGE, N.J. — Two RWJBarnabas Health hospitals have been named among the top 10 in New Jersey and the top 25 in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the U.S. News & World Report 2025–26 Best Hospitals rankings, the health system announced Tuesday.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) in New Brunswick earned the No. 4 spot in New Jersey and ranked No. 17 in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) in Livingston followed at No. 8 in the state and No. 23 in the region.

Only 13% of the more than 4,400 hospitals evaluated nationwide received a “Best Regional Hospital” designation. U.S. News named just 504 hospitals across 49 states and 95 metro areas as top performers this year.

RWJUH was recognized as High Performing in three adult specialties—Cancer (in partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey), Orthopedics, and Urology—placing it in the top 10% of rated hospitals. RWJUH Somerset was also rated High Performing in Orthopedics.

Hospitals across the RWJBarnabas Health system earned High Performing designations in multiple common procedures and conditions, including heart bypass surgery, lung cancer surgery, stroke care, diabetes management, and colon cancer surgery.

“Being recognized by U.S. News & World Report reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional, high-quality care to our patients,” said Dr. Andy Anderson, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical and Quality Officer at RWJBarnabas Health.
