HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — Henderson County authorities are issuing stern warnings to keep tourists and onlookers out of areas severely impacted by recent hurricane damage, vowing to cite anyone who disregards emergency restrictions in place.
In a message posted on social media, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that restricted zones, currently designated for residents, construction workers, and emergency personnel only, are off-limits to the general public. The office warned that violations of these rules would result in citations, with no exceptions or warnings issued.
“These signs do not say ‘Welcome Tourist’ or ‘Welcome Disaster Lookers,’” the department stated in its Facebook post, addressing the influx of non-essential visitors drawn to damaged sites. The sheriff’s office urged compliance, citing public safety concerns and the need to allow recovery efforts to proceed without interference.
Hurricane-related damage has left significant portions of Henderson County hazardous, with debris and partially restored infrastructure presenting risks to unauthorized visitors. Emergency workers and repair crews continue to face challenges in stabilizing affected areas and restoring critical services for residents. According to county officials, uninvited visitors disrupt these efforts, slowing the pace of recovery and increasing the potential for accidents.
