Two break-ins one suspect and a midnight arrest in Boston
Boston, MA — A series of early-morning break-ins across Boston’s North End has been linked to a single suspect now in custody after detectives tracked his movements through surveillance footage and made a late-night arrest.
The incidents began around 4:40 a.m. Thursday on Prince Street, where a resident reported a man inside a residential building after being alerted by a Ring camera and a barking dog. Video showed the suspect moving through hallways carrying a large bag. Several pairs of sneakers and a spare building key were reported missing.
Roughly 45 minutes later, the same individual allegedly forced entry into La Summa restaurant on Fleet Street by manipulating a rear door lock. Employees later discovered cash, blank checks, gift certificates, and personal belongings missing, with signs the safe had been accessed.
Detectives with District A-1 reviewed surveillance footage from both locations and identified 37-year-old David Loughran as the suspect.
Arrest warrants were issued April 25, and officers spotted Loughran early Sunday around 12:35 a.m. in the vestibule of a Fulton Street building. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police said a search of his backpack revealed controlled substances, a digital scale, and an unsheathed kitchen knife. Loughran was transported to Nashua Street Jail for booking.
He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on multiple charges, including unarmed burglary, larceny, breaking and entering at night, trespassing, carrying a dangerous weapon, and several drug possession offenses.
