NOTTINGHAM, MD – A Nottingham man recently uncovered a $50,000 winning Powerball ticket hidden in his car. The lucky winner, using the alias “Malcolm Reynolds,” found the third-tier prize in a stack of tickets he had accumulated.

Reynolds, a fan of the early 2000s TV series Firefly, typically buys tickets and lets them pile up. A friend encouraged him to check the tickets using her Lottery app. She found several small prizes of $4 and $7 before stumbling upon the significant $50,000 win. Reynolds initially struggled to believe his luck.

“I told her to scan it again,” he recalled with a laugh. “Then I went home and looked up the winning numbers online. I had to keep checking. I couldn’t believe it.”

The winning numbers from the Saturday, September 28 drawing were 3, 11, 13, 24, and 39, with a Powerball of 22. Although he missed out on the $245 million jackpot due to having 63 instead of 3, the $50,000 third-tier prize was still a significant win.

Reynolds plans to deposit his winnings into the bank. He purchased the winning ticket at Looney’s Pub in Bel Air, located at 312 S. Main Street in Harford County.

The Powerball jackpot continues to grow, with an estimated annuity of $437 million for the drawing on Saturday, October 19, and a cash option estimated at $210.3 million.
