Suspect charged after alleged Molotov cocktail plan disrupted by undercover operation
New York, NY – New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani said a foiled plot to attack a Palestinian-American activist’s home involved an individual tied to what federal authorities have described as a violent extremist offshoot, following the arrest of a New Jersey man accused of building explosive devices.
The suspect, identified in reports as 26-year-old Alexander Heifler of New Jersey, was arrested after authorities say he attempted to construct Molotov cocktails and target the residence of Nerdeen Kiswani, a New York-based activist and co-founder of the group Within Our Lifetime.
According to published reports, law enforcement intervened before the attack could be carried out, with an undercover NYPD detective playing a role in disrupting the plan.

A Hoboken, New Jersey man was charged with unlawful possession and making of destructive devices, U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer announced.
Alexander Heifler, 26, was charged by a two-count complaint with one count of unlawful possession of destructive devices and one count of making destructive devices. Heifler’s initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Stacey D. Adams is scheduled in Newark federal court at 2:00 pm.
As alleged in a criminal complaint, a Hudson County man has been charged in connection with a plot to construct and use improvised incendiary devices targeting another individual’s residence. This is an ongoing investigation. There is no current threat to the community. We thank our law enforcement partners for their work in identifying and removing this potential threat to the citizens of New Jersey.
The charges of unlawful possession of destructive devices and making of destructive devices each carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
U.S. Attorney Frazer credited the New York and Newark Field Offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Assistant Director in Charge James Barnacle in New York, New York and Special Agent in Charge Stefanie Roddy in Newark, New Jersey, the New York Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, and the Hoboken Police Department, under the direction of Chief Steven Aguiar with the investigation leading to the charge. He also thanked the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, under the direction of United States Attorney Jay Clayton.
The government is represented by Timothy M. Lanni, Acting Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, with assistance from the Office’s National Security Unit.
Mayor condemns political violence after arrest
“A member of an offshoot of the Jewish Defense League — designated by the FBI as a ‘known violent extremist organization’ — was allegedly building explosive devices,” Mamdani said in a public statement. “We will not tolerate violent extremism in our city. No one should face violence for their political beliefs or their advocacy.”
He added, “I am thankful that the NYPD and FBI thwarted this plot, which could have endangered Nerdeen’s life and those of other New Yorkers.”
Authorities allege the suspect planned to use multiple Molotov cocktails in the attack. Federal charges related to the possession and construction of destructive devices have been filed.

Target identified as prominent activist
