NEW YORK CITY – Mayor Eric Adams told Tucker Carlson that the Biden administration pressured him to prioritize politics and the upcoming national election over addressing New York City’s escalating migrant crisis. The remarks were made during a discussion about the overwhelming influx of migrants and asylum seekers arriving in the city.
Adams stated that he repeatedly warned the White House about the strain on the city’s resources, noting the challenges of handling nearly 8,000 migrants per week. “The impact of what these seem to care at all. It appears to me that there was a bigger focus on the national election and not what it was doing to the cities,” Adams said, adding that the city faced immense pressure to house the migrants.
The mayor revealed that his concerns were initially dismissed, leading him to form a coalition with other city leaders such as the mayors of Chicago and Denver. “I started meeting with the mayor of Chicago, in Denver and other mayors that said we have to be uniform around this issue,” Adams explained.
Adams also alleged that he faced criticism for speaking out, claiming the administration implied he was “not being a good Democrat.” “I think that was their philosophy, that I was supposed to silently watch what happens to this city. And I love this city. This is a city that I gave my life to protect,” Adams said, describing the severe impact of the crisis on New York City.
The city, which is legally required to provide housing for those in need, has faced significant logistical and legal challenges in accommodating the growing number of asylum seekers. Adams highlighted the strain on resources and the influx of migrants arriving at all hours.
