Ocean County man held on $20,000 bond for assaulting health care worker

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A man has been incarcerated in Ocean County after being charged with aggravated assault on a health care worker, according to jail records.

Asan M. Paige, 28, was committed to custody on Wednesday. He faces charges under N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1B(5)(J), a statute covering assaults committed against health care professionals in the course of their duties.

Court documents indicate Paige’s bond has been set at $20,000 with a 10% payment option. Jail records show the bond remains open, with no payment posted as of Thursday.

The exact circumstances surrounding the alleged assault have not been disclosed. However, New Jersey law considers offenses against health care workers serious, often resulting in enhanced penalties.

Paige remains in custody pending further legal proceedings, and his projected release date has yet to be determined.

Assaults on health care workers have drawn increased attention across New Jersey, prompting strict enforcement of protective laws.
