A domestic dispute turned fatal as authorities allege a man shot the mother of his child inside a home before leading law enforcement on a multi-state search.
CUSHING, OK – A 27-year-old Oklahoma man is facing a first-degree murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend as she held their 5-year-old son during an early morning confrontation on Easter, then fled across state lines before being taken into custody in Kansas.
Connor Allen Kinnamon was arrested and charged in the death of 27-year-old Audrey Adams, according to court records. Investigators say the shooting occurred inside a home in Cushing while multiple family members were present.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the incident followed a verbal altercation between the two that escalated physically. Investigators said the couple “had been in a verbal altercation, to the point there was a small shoving match,” with Kinnamon’s mother stepping in to separate them.
Escalation inside the home
The situation intensified after Adams called her mother for help, a move police say further agitated Kinnamon. At the time of the shooting, Adams was holding the couple’s young child near the front of the home.
“Connor was standing just inside the dining area facing the front door. Audrey had [their son] in her arms,” the affidavit states. “[The victim’s mother] began telling Audrey to come with her when Connor said something to the effect of shooting himself. Connor then pulled the gun and shot Audrey, who immediately collapsed onto the floor of the living room.”
Emergency responders arrived shortly after and attempted lifesaving measures, but Adams was pronounced dead at 2:47 a.m.
Flight across state lines and arrest
Authorities say Kinnamon fled immediately after the shooting, exiting through the back door and driving away in his mother’s Buick Regal. Family members inside the home acted quickly, with Adams’ mother securing the child while Kinnamon’s mother contacted 911.
Investigators tracked Kinnamon using cellphone data as he traveled north. “Numerous pings indicated that Connor was northbound toward the Kansas state line, eventually crossing into Kansas,” the affidavit states.
Law enforcement officials were able to contact Kinnamon by phone and negotiated his surrender as officers coordinated a stop. The vehicle was recovered in Kansas along with a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
“The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office secured the Buick Regal and located the suspected firearm used in the shooting inside the vehicle,” according to the affidavit.
Investigators also recovered a single spent 9 mm casing from inside the home.
Ongoing investigation and court proceedings
Prosecutors allege Kinnamon shot Adams “in the back of the head” and later confessed to the killing. Authorities noted that during an interview, Kinnamon said he and Adams had used methamphetamine prior to the incident, though toxicology results have not yet been confirmed.
The couple’s 5-year-old son was not physically injured.
Kinnamon is currently being held without bond at the Payne County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 4.
