One ball short but $1 million richer in Virginia lottery draw

DELTAVILLE, Va. — George Clayton of Deltaville came just one number shy of winning the Mega Millions jackpot but still walked away with a $1 million prize after matching the first five numbers in the November 22 drawing.

Clayton’s winning ticket, purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 16624 General Puller Highway, matched the numbers 13, 20, 26, 32, and 65. The only number he missed was the Mega Ball, which was 2.

The odds of matching the first five numbers in Mega Millions are 1 in 12,629,232. The odds of matching all six to win the jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m.

The Virginia Lottery confirmed the win and noted that Middlesex County, where the ticket was sold, received over $722,000 in K-12 education funding last fiscal year. All profits from lottery sales support public education across the Commonwealth.

Virginia Lottery continues education support with every ticket sold

In Fiscal Year 2024, the Virginia Lottery raised more than $934 million for K-12 public education, representing roughly 10 percent of the state’s total school budget. Proceeds from all lottery games go directly to local school districts statewide.

More information about the Virginia Lottery and how funds are distributed is available on the Lottery’s official Giving Back page.
