Rock paper scissors frenzy sparks jackpot win and tournament triumph in New Jersey
TRENTON, NJ – A weekend built on quick choices and head-to-head matchups delivered two separate wins as a Fast Play ticket in Bergen County hit a $466,437 jackpot while a crowded tournament at American Dream crowned a $10,000 champion, drawing players from across New Jersey into a mix of lottery play and live competition.
The New Jersey Lottery reported that a $5 Rock Paper Scissors Fast Play ticket produced its first jackpot winner on Sunday, when a player secured $466,437, representing half of the progressive prize. The ticket was sold at Stop and Shop #819 on Levandowski Street in Lyndhurst, marking the first top payout since the game launched on April 6.
At the same time, more than 380 participants gathered in East Rutherford for the second annual Rock Paper Scissors Throwdown, a bracket-style competition held over three days at the American Dream complex. The event concluded with Julio Rivera winning the final round to claim the $10,000 grand prize.
The tournament opened with appearances by former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber, who participated in fan matchups before the main competition began. Entrants, all at least 18 years old, advanced through multiple rounds in a structured format that narrowed the field to a final group competing for the top prize.
Organizers said the event was free to enter and designed to combine game-based chance with in-person competition. Participants competed in rapid rounds, leading to a final matchup that determined the champion.
The Fast Play Progressive tickets tied to the promotion remain available at lottery retailers across the state, offering immediate results and a rolling jackpot tied to ticket sales.
The weekend marked the first jackpot win tied to the Rock Paper Scissors Fast Play launch and the second year of the live tournament event, both centered on the same game concept.
