Only in NJ, Chiropractor Convicted for Luring Underage Girls for Sex Reinstated

TRENTON, NJ – Just when you think you’ve seen it all in liberal New Jersey, there’s always something new to completely amaze and shock us coming out of Trenton.  Last week, the New Jersey Board of Chiropractic Examiners voted to renew the license of Paramus area convicted sex offender Bryan Bajakian.  New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, as left as he is, even opposed this decision and has since requested a temporary stay before Bajakian could get his license back.

In 2005, Bajakian was charged with multiple counts of criminal conduct including attempting to lure a child, attempt to conduct a criminal act against a child, attempt to conduct criminal sexual contact with a child and possession of child [censored]ography.  Court records show that Bajakian began engaging in sexually explicit conversation with a child he understood to be under the age of 16 in internet chat rooms.  What he didn’t know is that the young girl was an undercover cop.  His defense was that he never attempted to lure children outside of internet chat rooms, but it was found that he did discuss picking up a 16-year-old girl he met in the chat rooms.

Eventually, Bajakian’s life fell apart. His marriage ended in divorce.  He then went on the internet to find love again, joining an adult dating site, which was in violation of his sentence and designation as a registered sex offender.   He was returned to prison in 2016 where he remained until 2017 when he was released.

His license was revoked by the board in 2010 under the administration of former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.  Bajakian tried to get reinstated in 2014, but was rejected by the board.  It was refused because the board felt he was dishonest in his representation of his crimes and that he had been convicted of several crimes of moral turpitude against minors, chiropractic medicine was probably not a great idea.

Enter the Phil Murphy administration where people who celebrate Thanksgiving dinner are criminals and the real criminals are let out of jail, often with COVID-19.  It’s a free-for-all.

The board voted to give Bajakian his license back and even Murphy’s top prosecutor, Gurbir Grewal couldn’t just stand by and let it happen.

“There is no way a dangerous, convicted child sexual predator should ever be allowed to work as a healthcare provider in our state, and certainly no way that a decision to re-license such an individual as a chiropractor should ever be made in secret, without the input of his victims or my office,” said Attorney General Grewal. “Bryan Bajakian’s heinous crimes and other misconduct rightly convinced the Board to revoke his license in 2010 — a decision that should never have been reversed. We will do everything we can to prevent this Megan’s Law offender and others from returning to practice. That is precisely why in February, I called on all professional licensing boards to work with our Division of Consumer Affairs to reexamine fully how they handle disciplinary decisions involving sexual misconduct and abuse, and to engage with the victims of such misconduct before any decisions are made. Public safety demands nothing less.”

New Jersey State Senator Bob Singer condemned the reinstatement.

“It is utterly inconceivable that the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners would think it a good idea to reinstate the license of a convicted sex offender who preyed on children. The board’s decision defies common sense and fails to meet the basic standard of public safety. Bryan Bajakian is a predator who should not be placed in a position of trust with patients in a healthcare setting and should not be allowed to threaten anyone again,” Singer said. “The Attorney General took the right action in ‘staying’ the decision so Mr. Bajakian can’t immediately resume practicing. But, in the end, he is powerless to deny the license renewal. That responsibility rests with the chiropractic board.”
