Pedestrian critically injured after being struck by SUV on Nassau Street in Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – A 28-year-old Princeton man is in critical condition after being struck by an SUV while crossing Nassau Street late Friday night, police said.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:32 p.m. between Washington Road and Moore Street, according to a statement from the Princeton Police Department.

Investigators said the man was using a marked mid-block crosswalk when he was hit by a westbound 2015 Ford Explorer.

Driver remained at scene and cooperated
Police said the driver, a 39-year-old Princeton resident, stopped immediately after the crash and cooperated with responding officers. The Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad and Princeton Fire Department also responded to assist at the scene.

The injured pedestrian sustained a head injury and was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Road closed for hours during investigation
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team assisted Princeton Police with the investigation, which kept Nassau Street closed to traffic for about three and a half hours. The New Jersey Department of Transportation Diversion Team also supported the effort.

Authorities said the investigation remains active, and anyone with information is asked to contact Ptl. Jon Myzie of the Princeton Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau at jmyzie@princetonnj.gov or call 609-921-2100.
