HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — A Monroeville man has been charged with scamming parents out of thousands of dollars for a youth lacrosse training camp in Westmoreland County that never occurred, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Christopher Langlais, 46, faces four counts of theft by deception and one count of receiving stolen property. Authorities say Langlais collected $2,350 from at least four victims in Youngwood, Irwin, and Greensburg for a camp he claimed would be held at Seton Hill University.
According to police, Langlais failed to pay the $1,200 rental fee required to secure a field at the university. Victims told investigators that Langlais had previously provided private lacrosse lessons for their children at the same location, which gave his claims credibility.
However, after the parents paid for the camp, communication with Langlais ceased, and the event was never organized.
Langlais was arraigned last week and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. Police are continuing to investigate the case, which highlights the financial and emotional impact on the affected families.
The charges raise concerns about accountability and trust in youth sports programs.
