PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Northwest Detective Division of the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) is actively searching for a suspect involved in a recent armed robbery. The incident occurred on January 13, 2024, at the Yala Habibi Market located at 5042 N. 5th Street.

According to the police report, at approximately 8:55 PM, an unidentified black male entered the market and initiated a verbal dispute with an employee. The situation escalated when the suspect breached the counter area, assaulted the employee, and subsequently brandished a firearm. The assailant demanded money from the cash register and fled the scene with $1,000. He was last seen heading south on N. 5th Street and then west on Ashdale Street.

Local store owners have informed the police that the individual is known to frequent the area around N. 5th Street. The PPD is requesting anyone with information regarding the suspect or the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
