Man arrested after DART bus driver assaulted outside Newark theater

NEWARK, DE – A Philadelphia man is in custody after allegedly assaulting a female DART bus driver outside Peoples Plaza in Newark on Thursday afternoon, leaving the victim with serious injuries.

Delaware State Police say the incident began around 1:00 p.m. on December 4, when the driver was returning to her bus from a nearby business. The man, identified as 22-year-old Larry Bryant, began following her and made her feel unsafe. When the driver asked Bryant to stop and attempted to call 911, he allegedly struck her in the face and fled the scene.

The bus driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained during the attack.

Troopers later tracked Bryant to Regal Cinemas at the same plaza, where he was found inside the theater without having paid for admission. He was arrested without incident.

Bryant was taken to Troop 2, where he was formally charged. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $6,000 secured bond.
