The scammers pose as deputy sheriffs, attempting to convince people to pay to avoid arrest for missing jury duty.
Particular professions, such as hospital workers and teachers, have been targeted due to the necessity of maintaining their certifications. Sheriff Kraus reassures the public that his office would never collect money or serve a warrant over the phone. Any such calls should be reported to his office at (412) 350-1541 or the local police.
