Police recover 53 illegal firearms across D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than 50 illegal firearms were taken off the streets last week as part of ongoing efforts to curb gun violence in the District, officials announced Thursday.

Between Jan. 27 and Feb. 3, Metropolitan Police Department officers and specialized units recovered 53 firearms, including handguns, shotguns, assault rifles, and “ghost guns.” Several arrests were made in connection with the recoveries, with charges ranging from possession of unregistered firearms to drug distribution while armed.

Among the weapons seized were a Glock 19, a Del-Ton DTI-15 assault rifle, and multiple firearms equipped with large-capacity magazines. Some of the recovered firearms were linked to prior crimes, and several suspects were already wanted on outstanding warrants.
