POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly assaulting two deputies during a disturbance at a homeless shelter on North Hamilton Street, authorities said.
According to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the shelter, located next to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center, at approximately 6:30 a.m. following reports of a disorderly individual threatening staff. The suspect, identified as Isaiah E. Lodge, allegedly became violent when approached by deputies.
During the altercation, Lodge is accused of biting two deputies and putting one in a chokehold. Additional deputies and City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers were called to the scene to subdue and take him into custody.
Both deputies and Lodge sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for treatment.
Lodge has been charged with second-degree assault (felony), criminal obstruction of breathing (misdemeanor), obstructing governmental administration (misdemeanor), resisting arrest (misdemeanor), trespass (violation), and disorderly conduct (violation). Following his arraignment in City of Poughkeepsie Court, he was remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
