Camden County player wins $1 million as New Jersey cashes in on Powerball frenzy
TRENTON, NJ – As the Powerball jackpot surged to nearly $1.8 billion on Saturday night, one lucky ticket holder in Camden County walked away $1 million richer, while 16 other New Jersey players scored at least $50,000 each in a historic drawing that electrified the state.
The staggering jackpot — ultimately split between tickets sold in Texas and Missouri — marked the second-largest prize in U.S. lottery history. But Garden State players still had plenty to celebrate, with winning tickets sold across 13 counties and millions in secondary prizes handed out across the state.
The Camden County ticket matched all five white balls but missed the Power Ball, securing the $1 million payout. Five other tickets across the state matched four white balls plus the Power Ball with a Power Play multiplier, earning each player $100,000. Eleven additional tickets hit four white balls and the Power Ball for $50,000 prizes. Winners hailed from all corners of the state — from Sussex County in the north to Cape May County at the southern tip.
New Jersey has been on a notable Powerball streak in recent months. Since the last jackpot was hit on May 31, 69 players in the state have claimed prizes of $50,000 or more. Among those, five hit the $1 million mark, while three others took home $150,000.
Although the biggest prize was claimed elsewhere, the lottery rush across New Jersey was palpable leading up to Saturday’s drawing. Lines stretched outside convenience stores and gas stations, and digital sales spiked as hopefuls scrambled for a shot at the multi-billion dollar dream.
The winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing were 11, 23, 44, 61, and 62, with a Power Ball of 17 and a 2X multiplier. With the grand prize now reset to $20 million, the New Jersey Lottery will continue its “The Jackpot Was Hit!” promotion through Saturday, offering players a free $2 ticket when they purchase three plays on a single ticket.
The Camden County winner has not yet come forward to claim the $1 million prize. Players have up to one year to redeem winning tickets in New Jersey.
