Family dates turn into Pick 5 top prize
ABERDEEN, Md. — An Aberdeen postal worker turned family birthdays into a $50,000 Maryland Lottery payday after his Pick 5 numbers matched every digit in the evening drawing.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the Harford County resident matched the July 21 Pick 5 Evening drawing with the number combination 7-2-4-0-3, winning the game’s $50,000 top prize on a $1 straight-bet ticket.
The longtime Lottery player said the winning numbers were based on family birthdays.
He discovered the win while at work delivering mail.
“I looked up the results on my phone and could not believe it when I saw my numbers,” the winner told Lottery officials. “I had to ask a co-worker to check to see if I was seeing things.”
The postal employee said he has won notable prizes playing Pick 3 and Pick 4 over the years, but described the Pick 5 jackpot as a different experience.
“I’ve won big prizes playing Pick 3 and Pick 4 more than a few times over the years,” he said. “But this is a whole different thing.”
The winning ticket was purchased at the Royal Farms located at 9620 Belair Road in Perry Hall.
Royal Farms will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.
