Prince George’s County Retiree Wins $576,900 in Bonus Match 5

July 24, 2024

A retiree from Prince George’s County, Maryland, hit a substantial lottery win, securing $576,900 from the Bonus Match 5 drawing on July 21. The winner, a regular player of the game, purchased the same number combination 25 times, maximizing her winnings under the game’s prize rules.

The Maryland Lottery states that the Bonus Match 5 typically offers a top prize of $50,000. However, the total prize pool is capped at $600,000. If there are more than 12 top-prize winning tickets, the amount is divided equally among them. On this occasion, another player in Harford County also won with the same numbers, bringing the total number of winning combinations to 26, each valued at $23,076.

The retiree, who previously worked for the federal government for 30 years, shared that her main goal with the winnings is to pay off her house mortgage. “I’ll be happy just to have my house paid off,” she remarked, expressing contentment despite not hitting the $600,000 mark due to the shared prize scenario. She admitted to not knowing about the prize pool limit but accepted the outcome graciously.

Over the years, she has consistently played Bonus Match 5, often purchasing multiple tickets with the same number combination based on a tip from a fellow lottery player. Her winning strategy finally paid off significantly with this latest draw.

The lucky winner checked her winning numbers just before bedtime and was able to calmly proceed with claiming her prize with the support of her son. In addition to clearing her mortgage, she plans to organize her finances, assist her sister financially, and possibly enjoy a celebratory vacation.

The 7-Eleven store in Glenarden, where she purchased her tickets, will receive a $5,769 bonus for selling the winning tickets. The winner plans to continue playing Bonus Match 5, albeit with some adjustments to her purchasing strategy, and has decided to keep the significance of her winning numbers private to maintain anonymity. As of July 24, the prize for the 26th ticket sold in Forest Hill has not yet been claimed.
