Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced today that Ronald Williams, 24, has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to assault and attempted sexual abuse for attacking a 52-year-old woman on April 30, 2018 in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens.

District Attorney Katz said, “This was a vicious attack on a woman just moments after she dropped her son off at school. When she was found, she was virtually unrecognizable due to the extent of her bruises and injuries. Although the defendant attempted to evade justice, he was apprehended and has now been sentenced by the Court.”

Williams, 24, whose last known address was a shelter on Rockaway Boulevard, pleaded guilty last month, in Queens Supreme Court to assault in the first degree and attempted sexual abuse in the first degree before Queens Supreme Court Justice Ushir Pandit-Durant. Today, Justice Pandit-Durant sentenced the defendant to a determinate term of 12 years in prison to be followed by five years’ post release supervision. Also, as part of his plea agreement, the defendant is required to register as a sex offender pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration Act.

District Attorney Katz said, the defendant admitted that on April 30, 2018, shortly after 8 a.m., he attacked a 52-year-old woman and also attempted to sexually assault her in an apartment building’s outdoor stairwell near 72^nd Road and Kissena Boulevard.

The victim, who was taken to a local Queens hospital, sustained a fractured vertebra in her neck and a fractured orbital bone. She also required four staples in her head which is consistent with blunt force trauma.

The defendant fled the area and the state. Williams was apprehended eight days later in South Carolina by the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and extradited back to New York.

Assistant District Attorney Laura Dorfman, Legal Training Administrator, and formerly of the District Attorney’s Special Victims Bureau, prosecuted the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Eric C. Rosenbaum, Bureau Chief, and the under overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for Trials Pishoy Yacoub.
