Roxbury Man Arrested Following Stabbing Incident in Dorchester

BOSTON, Mass. — A Roxbury man was arrested on Saturday morning after a stabbing incident in Dorchester that led to a brief chase and multiple charges. The Boston Police Department reported that officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) and District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested 30-year-old Kelvin Ortiz on assault and battery charges.

The incident began around 8:36 a.m. on August 31 when officers responded to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of Columbia Road and Stoughton Street. Upon arrival, they found an adult male victim suffering from a stab wound. The victim, whose injuries were deemed non-life-threatening, was transported to a local hospital by Boston EMS.

Before being transported, the victim identified a suspect fleeing the scene near Columbia Road and Dudley Street. Officers pursued the suspect, who was described as riding a bicycle. The chase continued until Ortiz was located on Gene Street, where he attempted to evade capture by jumping a fence.

The pursuit led officers to Humphreys Street, where they were informed that Ortiz had broken into a nearby basement. He was apprehended on Wendover Street as he tried to flee the basement.

Ortiz has been charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Breaking and Entering Daytime for Felony, and Trespassing. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
