CARROLLTON, Va. — Chomedy Hatton of Suffolk is celebrating after winning the $500,000 top prize on the Virginia Lottery’s Jewel 7s scratch-off game, officials confirmed.

Hatton bought the ticket at the Food Lion on Carrollton Boulevard and was left in disbelief after uncovering the jackpot prize. She shared the moment with her mother, who immediately started screaming in excitement.

Jewel 7s (Game #2347) offers prizes from $20 up to $500,000. Hatton’s win marks the first top prize claimed, leaving two more available. The odds of hitting the top prize are 1 in 612,000, with overall odds of winning any prize at 1 in 5.24.

Lottery supports public education

Virginia Lottery proceeds fund K-12 public education, with Suffolk alone receiving over $12 million last year. Across Virginia, the Lottery contributed more than $934 million in Fiscal Year 2024, about 10 percent of the state’s K-12 education budget.
