Smoke alarm saves Willowdale home from fast-moving fire

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – A quick-acting fire alarm system and fast response by local firefighters prevented major damage to a home in the Willowdale section of town earlier today.

Crews were initially dispatched for a standard alarm activation but upgraded the call to a confirmed house fire while en route.

When firefighters and EMTs arrived, they found smoke conditions but quickly brought the situation under control, officials said.

No injuries were reported, and damage to the structure was kept to a minimum thanks to the early detection and rapid response.

Early alert credited with minimizing damage

Officials credited the home’s working smoke alarm with providing the crucial early warning that allowed fire companies to arrive before the blaze spread. Firefighters emphasized that the outcome could have been far worse without functioning detectors in place.

Fire department urges residents to check alarms

The Cherry Hill Fire Department is reminding residents to test their smoke alarms regularly and replace batteries as needed. They also urge families to develop and practice a home fire escape plan.
