Snowy conditions, crashes, and construction impact New York State roads

ALBANY, N.Y. — Motorists across New York State encountered widespread travel challenges Monday morning due to weather-related restrictions, icy conditions, and multiple crashes on major routes.

Plowing and salting were underway on the New York State Thruway (I-90) from Junius to Victor and from Canastota to Van Buren as of 7:48 a.m. following overnight snowfall. Weather-related truck restrictions remained in effect on I-86 and I-90, with Pennsylvania authorities banning empty and double commercial vehicles from crossing into New York due to forecasted conditions.

Crashes further complicated commutes, including a major incident involving icy roads on NY 386 between Greece and Gates, which led to the closure of all lanes. Additional crashes on the NYS Thruway were reported near Exit 40 in Mentz and Exit 33 in Verona, while an overturned truck on the Cross Island Parkway in New York blocked two right lanes.

Construction projects added to the delays, with lane closures on the Queensboro Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, and various state routes, including NY 5, US 20, and NY 481. Work on the Henry Hudson Bridge northbound closed one left lane, contributing to delays for Bronx-bound drivers.

River crossings also faced issues, including crash-related delays on the Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive near the Long Island Expressway and ongoing construction on the Williamsburg and Queensboro Bridges.
