Crash and watermain break snarl Monday morning NJ commutes
TRENTON, N.J. — Monday morning commuters across New Jersey faced numerous traffic disruptions, with crashes, watermain breaks, and heavy delays reported on major roadways, including the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike, and key Hudson River crossings.
A crash on the Garden State Parkway northbound near Exit 90 in Brick Township caused early delays, though all lanes remain open as of 8:10 a.m. Another crash was reported on the Parkway southbound at Exit 130B-A in Woodbridge Township, with vehicles moved to the right shoulder.
Commuters on US Route 46 westbound encountered a major obstacle in South Hackensack Township, where a watermain break east of Central Avenue has closed all lanes since 7:23 a.m. Traffic is being detoured, with significant impacts reported in the area.
Volume-related delays plagued multiple key arteries. The Garden State Parkway northbound saw congestion stretching two miles between Exits 89C and 90, while the New Jersey Turnpike’s Eastern Spur experienced delays outside Interchange 16E in Secaucus and near Interchange 15W in Newark.
Hudson River crossings were also severely impacted. Travel times at the Lincoln Tunnel reached 40 minutes for both the center and south tunnels, while delays at the George Washington Bridge’s lower level eastbound pushed travel times to 35 minutes.
Morning delays extended across NJ-24, the NJ Turnpike Hudson County Extension, and additional points on the Garden State Parkway.
