Southern Maryland woman stunned by $150K Powerball prize

WALDORF, Md. — A Charles County woman accustomed to managing large sums of money was stunned to find herself holding a $150,000 Powerball prize. The Southern Maryland financial advisor, who works with six- and seven-figure accounts daily, said seeing that amount attached to her own name was an entirely different experience.

“It’s one thing when I see all those zeroes on a ledger sheet at work, when it’s someone else’s financial accounts,” she told lottery officials. “It’s a whole different story when your name is on the check.”

The winner, who often plays Pick 4 and considers it her favorite game, decided to buy a Powerball ticket during a stop at a Waldorf 7-Eleven on Oct. 30. The next day, she scanned her ticket at a store and received a “See Lottery” message. Confused, she asked the clerk to scan it, and when she saw the $150,000 prize, she celebrated with a quick dance at the counter.

The winning ticket, purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 11575 Berry Road, included two self-selected combinations, but her big prize came from a Quick Pick line on the ticket.

Despite her familiarity with large sums, the Charles County resident said the unexpected windfall left her in disbelief.
