Stafford county deputies arrest wanted fugitive at local motel

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A significant arrest was made early Friday morning at the Excel Inn and Suites, where 33-year-old Stafford man Markus Collins was taken into custody. Collins was wanted on multiple charges, including serious firearms and drug offenses.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. on June 21st, deputies arrived at the Excel Inn and Suites located at 594 Warrenton Road to serve a warrant. They had been searching for Collins since early June, who had accrued a substantial list of charges: possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon, two counts of possession of controlled substances while in possession of a firearm, three additional counts of possession of controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances while in possession of a firearm, and a general intent to distribute, along with a capias charge — totaling ten charges against him.

Thanks to diligent detective work, law enforcement was aware that Collins was at the motel. After securing the area and waiting for the right moment, deputies observed Collins leaving the motel and entering a rideshare vehicle just after 7:30 a.m. This sighting triggered a well-coordinated high-risk stop. Surrounded by deputies and motivated by the barking of K-9 Rip, Collins complied with all commands and was arrested without further incident.

Collins was served with all outstanding warrants and is currently being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail, awaiting further proceedings. This arrest highlights the relentless effort of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office to address and curtail criminal activities in the area
