Suspect Sentenced in Brooklyn Matzah Factory Burglary

BROOKLYN, NY – Muntaquim Durant, a 44-year-old resident of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, has been sentenced to a term of two-and-a-half to five years in prison for a burglary at a Matzah factory in Williamsburg. The sentencing, handed down by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Raymond Rodriguez, follows Durant’s guilty plea in October to third-degree burglary.

The Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez reported that the crime occurred on February 28, at around 9:50 a.m., just before the Passover season.

Durant broke into the Satmar matzah bakery at 423 Broadway, where surveillance footage captured him entering the building, rummaging through jackets, and forcefully entering the office on the second floor. He was seen leaving the office with a substantial amount of cash and checks.

The theft included over $34,000 in checks and more than $60,000 in cash. The discovery was made by an employee who found checks scattered on the office floor. The incident was reported to the police, leading to Durant’s arrest on March 15, during a routine traffic stop.

Durant, identified from surveillance footage, was a suspect in other burglaries as well.
