Teachers Are Frustrated Morale is Low Nationwide and in New Jersey

TRENTON, NJ — A new Morning Consult poll highlights a significant decline in teacher morale, reaching a four-year low. This trend points to widespread dissatisfaction within the teaching profession, particularly emphasized in states like New Jersey. Here, teachers face challenges such as adapting curricula to new state laws, witnessing book removals, and dealing with increased student misbehavior and absences.

Despite these issues, there is a rising trend in support for school choice policies among educators. The poll indicates strong backing for Education Savings Accounts with 69% approval, open enrollment policies at 63%, and charter schools receiving 50% support. However, support for school vouchers is notably lower at 41%.

Proposed measures to address teacher dissatisfaction include salary increases and greater autonomy in the classroom, offering some hope for improving the professional environment in schools.

These findings underscore the complex landscape of K-12 education and the diverse opinions among teachers regarding potential reforms.
