DORCHESTER, Mass. — An 18-year-old Dorchester man has been arrested in connection with a double shooting that left one victim with life-threatening injuries after gunfire erupted outside a Boston residence earlier this week.

Boston police said members of the department’s Fugitive Unit arrested Jaynell Sumler around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on warrants connected to the shooting at 69 Kingsdale Street.

Authorities charged Sumler with two counts of assault to murder, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card and discharging a firearm and striking a building.

The shooting happened around 6:48 p.m. Sunday when officers assigned to District B-3 in Mattapan responded to reports of a person shot in Dorchester.

When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals, with one victim reported to have life-threatening injuries.

The Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit continues investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Investigators urged anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit or submit anonymous tips through the department’s CrimeStoppers program.

Police also said photos and videos connected to the case may be submitted anonymously.
