Two men sentenced in deadly Asbury Park triple shooting that killed 21-year-old man

FREEHOLD, NJ — Two men have been sentenced in connection with a 2023 triple shooting at an Asbury Park apartment complex that killed one man and wounded two others, Monmouth County officials confirmed Friday.

Ziamere Ivery, 18, of Neptune Township, and Michael Sally, 21, of Long Branch, were handed prison terms of 18 years and 7 years respectively during an October 17 sentencing in Monmouth County Superior Court. Both men had pleaded guilty in May to charges stemming from the July 3, 2023, shooting at the Asbury Park Gardens complex.

Ivery pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and must serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act. Sally pleaded guilty to second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and must serve 42 months before parole eligibility as mandated by the Graves Act.

Police were called to the scene just after 10:30 p.m. on the night of the shooting, where they found three adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. All three were rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Two victims were treated and released, while the third—21-year-old Lativity Lyons of Asbury Park—was pronounced dead less than half an hour after the shooting.

A fourth individual, believed to be the intended target, sustained only minor injuries and did not seek medical treatment.

Ivery was initially charged as a juvenile but was later waived up to adult court. The case was prosecuted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department.
