ASBURY PARK, NJ — Two men have admitted guilt in connection to a 2023 apartment complex shooting that left one man dead and two others wounded, Monmouth County prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Ziamere Ivery, 18, of Neptune Township, pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter on Friday, May 9, before Judge Jill G. O’Malley. He faces up to 18 years in New Jersey State Prison and must serve at least 85% of his sentence under the state’s No Early Release Act.
Michael Sally, 20, of Long Branch, pleaded guilty to second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He faces a seven-year term with a minimum of 42 months before parole eligibility, in accordance with New Jersey’s Graves Act.
Deadly gunfire erupted at apartment complex on July 3, 2023
The charges stem from a shooting at the Asbury Park Gardens apartment complex on Atlantic Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on July 3, 2023. Responding officers found three adult male victims suffering gunshot wounds. Two were hospitalized and later released; the third, 21-year-old Lativity Lyons of Asbury Park, died shortly after arriving at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Investigators determined that a fourth man was the intended target of the attack but was not injured. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Asbury Park Police Department led the investigation that ultimately identified Ivery and Sally as the perpetrators.
Ivery was initially charged as a juvenile but was waived up to adult court due to the severity of the crime. Sentencing dates have not yet been announced.
