A 13-year-old boy riding a mini bike was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night on Courtland Avenue in Stamford, prompting an ongoing investigation into the unidentified driver who fled the scene.
The fatal collision occurred around 8:47 p.m. in front of 316 Courtland Ave. The juvenile had been riding southbound with a family member who was on a scooter when they pulled over to the shoulder for an unknown reason. While stopped, an oncoming vehicle struck the mini bike, launching the 13-year-old off the vehicle and into a nearby yard.
Two neighbors who heard the crash rushed to assist and began CPR before Stamford Fire Department and EMS personnel arrived and took over. The victim was transported to Stamford Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Officials have not released the boy’s identity due to his age.
Investigators from Stamford’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad are working to identify the vehicle and driver responsible. Based on debris and evidence at the scene, police believe the suspect vehicle is a silver Honda Accord from between 2003 and 2007. The car may be multicolored with aftermarket parts and is likely missing a portion of its front bumper. It sustained significant front passenger-side damage during the impact.
The vehicle left the scene before emergency responders arrived, and no suspects have been identified.
