PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed Monday afternoon following a violent altercation involving a group of juveniles on a SEPTA bus in West Philadelphia, according to police.

The deadly incident unfolded around 1:03 p.m. near 40th Street and Girard Avenue. Authorities said a fight broke out among 5 to 6 juveniles in the rear of the bus while it was in motion.
In response to the commotion, the bus driver stopped the vehicle. At that point, one of the juveniles exited through the rear door and fired a single shot back into the bus, striking the 15-year-old victim in the chest.
Officers transported the teen to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:19 p.m.
No arrests have been announced, and the shooter fled the scene immediately after firing the weapon. Police have not released any suspect description at this time.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the SEPTA vehicle and nearby locations as the search for the gunman continues.
