OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Burglars are continuing to target unlocked homes across Monmouth County, entering residences in an effort to steal vehicles and locate key fobs, according to a warning issued by the Ocean Township Police Department.
Police said the recent incidents have prompted renewed calls for residents to take precautions, including locking vehicles, securing doors and using alarm systems.
The department said thieves have been entering unsecured homes specifically to search for vehicle keys and key fobs that can be used to steal cars parked outside.
Authorities urged residents to immediately report suspicious activity by calling 911 or the Ocean Township Police Department at 732-531-1800.
Police said prompt reporting from residents is one of the most effective ways to prevent additional crimes and help officers identify or apprehend suspects.
