This is not the onion: pennsylvania governor outlaws sale of alcohol on thanksgiving eve

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Things in liberal land just got very strange as Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has announced a one night prohibition on the sale of alcohol across the state. Bars and restaurants may not sell alcohol between 5 p.m. this coming Wednesday until 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving Thursday. Yes, the Governor of Pennsylvania has just banned the sale of alcohol on Thanksgiving Eve…because…you know…coronavirus.

In another bizarre twist to the plot, Wolfe has announced that Fine Wine and Good Spirit liquor stores will be open all day on Wednesday to purchase alcohol for you and the other nine guests at your Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.

“As Pennsylvania sees an increase in cases, the commonwealth is strengthening gathering restrictions. All large events and gatherings are now reduced until further notice. In addition, the retail food services industry, including bars, restaurants, and private catered events must end alcohol sales for on-site consumption at 5 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2020 only,” Wolf…actually said.

To specifically address large crowds, on Nov. 25, 2020, only, all sales or dispensing of alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption at businesses in the retail food services industry, including bars, restaurants, and private catered events must end at 5 p.m. Indoor dining may continue, takeout is encouraged. This paves the way for the Governor to shut down bars anytime big crowds are expected. What’s next Sunday night football? New Years? World AIDS Day? National Mutt Day? National Ice Cream Day? Taylor Swift’s Birthday? All of upcoming days in December. We’ll have to wait and see on that.
