Late night traffic stop uncovers heroin stash and DUI arrest in Laurel

Laurel, DE – A routine early morning traffic stop led to drug charges and a DUI arrest after troopers reported spotting paraphernalia in plain view and uncovering dozens of suspected heroin bags inside a vehicle.

The stop occurred Friday around 2:00 a.m. on Fire Tower Road near Sycamore Road, according to Delaware State Police.

Troopers pulled over a Chevrolet Cruze for a moving violation and identified the driver as a 36-year-old man from Selbyville and the passenger as Nicole Kenton, 38, of Harrington.

During the stop, a trooper observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, prompting a search. Investigators said they recovered additional paraphernalia along with approximately 48 bags of suspected heroin and about 0.85 grams of suspected cocaine, which were attributed to Kenton.

Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody along with the passenger without incident.

Kenton was charged with multiple offenses, including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in a tier 1 quantity, possession of a controlled substance, and five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arraigned and released on an $8,000 unsecured bond.

The driver was issued a summons for driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and related traffic violations before being released.
