Violent wrecks on Scottsville Road and Fontaine Avenue Extended send multiple victims fighting for their lives

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — Two separate crashes just hours apart turned deadly Thursday in Albemarle County, leaving two 19-year-olds dead and several others hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The first crash happened around 2:35 p.m. Thursday in the 7500 block of Scottsville Road in Scottsville, according to the Albemarle County Police Department.

Police and Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash and found three people suffering life-threatening injuries.

All three victims were transported to UVA Health for treatment.

Investigators said 19-year-old Tripp M. Dwyer of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, later died from his injuries at the hospital.

Police said Dwyer was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Later that night, around 10:39 p.m., emergency crews responded to a second serious crash in the 3100 block of Fontaine Avenue Extended.

Authorities said a single vehicle left the roadway and slammed into a tree.

Three people were inside the vehicle, and one passenger was ejected during the crash.

First responders performed life-saving measures before all three victims were transported to UVA Health in life-threatening condition.

Police said speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The ejected passenger, identified as 19-year-old Walker W. Fendley of Charlottesville, later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Both crashes remain under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.

Authorities said charges are pending as the investigations continue.
