December 14, 2025

STAMFORD, CT – Police are investigating two unrelated deaths discovered Saturday morning in different parts of the city, both believed to be possibly linked to exposure to the elements.

According to the Stamford Police Department, officers responded first to a report of an unresponsive woman at a bus stop in the area of 800 East Main Street.

The victim, identified as 50-year-old Johanna Beatriz Navas-Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a separate call, officers located 52-year-old Francisco J. Diaz-Aquino deceased near the softball fields in Cummings Park.

No foul play suspected

Investigators said no signs of foul play were found in either case, though both deaths remain under active investigation.

Police noted that cold exposure may have been a contributing factor, but official causes of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

City offers assistance for vulnerable residents

Authorities urged residents to check on family, friends, and neighbors who may be at risk due to freezing temperatures and to use available city resources.

Assistance for men can be accessed by calling 203-348-2792 and pressing 0, while women and families can call 211 for help.

The department also reminded residents that non-emergency assistance is available through the Stamford Police line at 203-977-4444.

Community urged to stay vigilant

Police emphasized that community awareness and early intervention are key to preventing weather-related tragedies.

City officials continue to monitor conditions as temperatures remain below freezing through the weekend.
