Utica Police Issue 66 Tickets for Illegal Car Meets

October 9, 2024

UTICA, N.Y. — The Utica Police Department issued 66 traffic tickets and made one arrest during an enforcement operation targeting vehicle gatherings across the city on Tuesday night. The crackdown followed months of complaints from residents about disruptive activity at these events.

The gatherings, which have reportedly caused disturbances on Broad Street, Bleecker Street, and in the North Utica Lowes and Walmart parking lots, have drawn criticism over disorderly behavior, traffic violations, and other quality of life concerns.

In response to repeated requests for police intervention, the C Platoon Patrol Division and the Crime Prevention Unit conducted a proactive enforcement detail on October 8, 2024, aimed at addressing the ongoing issues.

The operation led to the arrest of one individual for obstructing governmental administration after the person refused to comply with a motor vehicle stop, authorities said.

The Utica Police Department announced that it will continue to increase enforcement efforts at future gatherings to curb the problematic behavior. Further details about the specific violations cited during the operation were not disclosed.
