LAVALE, MD – A tragic motor vehicle accident occurred on the morning of March 30th on Winchester Road in Lavale, MD. Allegany County deputies responded to the scene in the 13000 block where a vehicle was reported overturned.

Rescue efforts involved several area fire departments attempting to extricate two victims trapped inside the vehicle. Karen Walker, 66, from Bowling Green, MD, was successfully removed and airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, for treatment.

Phillip Allen Walker, 62, also from Bowling Green, MD, was the driver of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts to revive him. The incident led to Winchester Road being closed for hours as crash team investigators from the Cumberland Police Department and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office conducted their investigation.

Support on the scene included Maryland State Police Trooper 5, local volunteer fire departments, and the Allegany Department of Emergency Services.
