Retired Maryland woman’s routine fill-up ended with a winning ticket

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — A routine stop to fill her gas tank turned into an unexpected celebration after a retired Temple Hills woman discovered her Keno ticket was worth $30,000.

The Maryland Lottery player was running errands on July 14 when she stopped at the Allentown Exxon, located at 7713 Allentown Road in Fort Washington, to refuel her vehicle. While inside the station, she also purchased her regular lottery games, including a single-drawing, six-spot Keno ticket with the Super Bonus.

Using numbers she selected herself, the retired player watched as her picks appeared during the drawing.

“I was so excited, but I didn’t want anyone to know,” she told Maryland Lottery officials. “I got in my car and went straight home.”

Although she knew she had won a significant prize, she didn’t know the exact amount until she scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app.

“When I saw it said $30,000, I was so happy,” she said while claiming her prize on July 30 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The Temple Hills resident said she has no immediate plans for the winnings and intends to deposit the money in the bank for now.

The winning ticket was sold at the Allentown Exxon in Fort Washington. The retailer will receive a $300 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
