WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ – Wall Township was slammed Friday with more than eight inches of wet, heavy snow, far surpassing forecasts and setting the stage for a bitter cold snap expected to last through the weekend.
Strong winds and plummeting temperatures are forecast to grip the area over the next 24 to 48 hours.
Officials warned that the combination of refreezing slush and gusting winds could produce widespread black ice, downed trees, and power lines overnight.
Road crews from the state, county, and township have been working to keep main routes clear and plan to continue salting operations through the night to combat the expected refreeze.
Allenwood Road closed due to downed utility pole
Authorities confirmed that Allenwood Road will remain closed at least overnight between State Highway 138 and Eighteenth Avenue after a pole came down under the weight of the snow. Drivers are being redirected to alternate routes while crews assess and repair the damage.
Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the extreme cold and to report downed wires from a safe distance. Police emphasized that road conditions are expected to worsen overnight as temperatures drop below freezing.
Township urges safety and patience during cleanup
Wall Township Police advised that additional updates will be released as conditions evolve, urging residents to exercise caution and give plow and utility crews space to work. The department’s non-emergency line, (732) 449-4500, remains open for weather-related concerns.
The heavy snowfall, paired with strong winds and freezing temperatures, has created hazardous travel conditions across the region.
