Pickpocket robbery on 9th Street ends with arrest after assault

Washington, DC – A busy Northwest corridor turned chaotic when a thief slipped a hand into a stranger’s pocket, sparking a confrontation that police say escalated into an assault before the suspect ran off.

The robbery occurred Sunday afternoon at approximately 5:00 p.m. in the 1900 block of 9th Street, Northwest. Investigators say the suspect approached the victim and stealthily removed the victim’s phone and wallet without being noticed at first.

When the victim realized what had happened and confronted the suspect with the help of a witness, police say the suspect assaulted both individuals before fleeing the scene. The stolen property was later recovered and returned to the victim.

Following an investigation, an arrest was made Wednesday. Police charged 27-year-old Ka’Ron Davis, of Southwest Washington, with robbery involving pickpocketing.

Officials said the case highlights how quickly thefts in crowded areas can escalate into violence.
