Wife wakes husband with shocking news he just won $230K lottery prize

CHESTER, Va. — A Virginia man thought his wife was joking when she woke him up early in the morning — until he checked his phone and realized he had just won $230,000.

Johnny Alvarado, a systems engineer, had purchased a Cash 5 with EZ Match ticket online before going to bed. Hours later, his wife delivered the life-changing news.

“I looked at my phone, and that’s when I knew it was true,” Alvarado said. “I was surprised because I’ve never won anything.”

The winning numbers for the March 4 drawing were 9, 15, 27, 31 and 33. Alvarado used Easy Pick, meaning the numbers were randomly generated.

The Chester resident said he doesn’t have any major plans for the money yet, but intends to use it to take care of his family.

Cash 5 with EZ Match features a rolling jackpot that starts at $200,000, with odds of hitting all five numbers at 1 in 1,221,759.

Virginia Lottery officials noted that all proceeds from ticket sales go toward funding public education across the state.
