WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — A 47-year-old man was hospitalized early Tuesday after being attacked and robbed by a group of males while walking near Carey Avenue and Academy Street, according to Wilkes-Barre police.
At approximately 12:01 a.m. on July 8, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Carey Avenue for a reported robbery. The victim told police that he was walking in the area when he was approached by four unidentified male suspects.
According to the victim, one of the suspects grabbed a chair from the front porch of a nearby home and used it as a weapon, striking him in the head. As the victim was being assaulted, the group removed his cellphone and $26 in cash from his person before fleeing the scene.
The man sustained head injuries and was transported by medics to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately released.
Police described one of the suspects as a Black male, approximately 18 to 21 years old. No further suspect descriptions have been provided.
